Houston Personal Watercraft Insurance Information

Houston personal watercraft (also called jet ski) insurance is available with several options. The least expensive option is liability only coverage. This is similar to an auto liability policy with coverage in Texas starting at around 20/40/15. That would cover injury to another person up to $20,000, or up to $40,000 for multiple persons injured in the same accident. Property damage usually starts at $15,000.

This type of basic coverage could be around $10 per month depending on rating factors like age, driving record, and other factors. You can increase the limits at additional cost. This is advisable because if there is an accident the damages could be much higher than the minimum coverage.

Jet ski's are a lot of fun and in the excitement of a new purchase some customers don't think about insurance. This is a mistake because there is a serious liability hazard involved with these crafts. For example if a swimmer is run over by a personal watercraft you own, you will probably be liable for injurys. Think about how you will feel if there is a serious accident if you don't have insurance!

For additional cost you can insure your personal watercraft for collision, theft, sinking, and other covered hazards. The extra cost will depend on the Jet Skis value, the deductible you select, your driving record, and other factors. This coverage will often be around $15 extra per month. This is very good coverage to have and I recommend it unless your watercraft has a very small value. Consider adding your trailer if applicable. Most policies will allow you to add coverage for accessories with a small up-charge.

Other options could include medical payments coverage, uninsured watercraft, towing and assistance, wreck removal, and pollution liability coverage.
